16 Years Together

For Johnny and I's 16 year anniversary we decided that it would be fun to take a cooking class together.  We took a Mexican class and had a blast.  It was so cool cooking our own anniversary meal.

Here was our menu for the evening...

Shrimp and Avocado Ceviche
Corn Tortilla Chips
Pico de Gallo
Pork Carnitas Tacos
Cilantro-Lime Rice
Saucy Spicy Black Beans
Homemade Corn Tortillas
Sopaopillas
Horchata

Our class was held at
Generous Servings Cooking Classes and Cafe
3801 West 32nd Avenue
Denver, Co 80211

Frying up the Sopaipillas.  They were so good.
Can't wait to make this at home!

Here we are cooking the Beans and frying up the Corn Tortillas.

Johnny presses out a Corn Tortilla.

Happy 16 years!!

Nature and Garden of the Gods

In Colorado Springs there is a place called the "Garden of the Gods"
Take a look at these pictures to see what it contains.
So as you can see the Garden of the Gods is about a 3 mile drive with all kinds of rock formations.  It is just amazing how they just are standing there.  We saw one rock called Balance Rock.  Heston looks like he is holding it above his head.  God has made such beautiful natural things for us to enjoy.

Here are some really cool pictures of nature that I wanted to
share with you all.  The land out here in the West is just so
different from what we've seen back in the East.

Restaurant Review #2 Gunther Today's

While Johnny's parents were out here in Denver, we found
this great restaurant.  It is just about one mile from our house.
This restaurant is decorated in the 50 style.  It has a full
size 1958 corvette in it along with a motorcycle, jukebox and
lots of old time appliances.  The boys enjoyed playing the
claw machine.

This is why I like this dinner, the Monte Cristo.  This is a fried ham sandwich.
The only place I have ever found this sandwich is at a Bennigans.  All know
Bennigans have went out of business.  So I was thrilled to find another place to
get one of my favorite sandwiches.

Heston hula hooping !!

Focus on the Family

Our trip to Focus on the Family

One of the favorite pass times of our boys is listening to the Radio Drama,
'Adventures in Odyssey.'
These Cd's are made by Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs.  Adventures in Odyssey are stories focused around a place called Whit's End.  It's all about the lives of the people that live there in Odyssey.  Through the stories of these people biblical truths are taught.
I would like introduce you to Odyssey through this blog post.

This was a long awaited trip by our boys.  They were very excited to be
able to share it with their grandparents.

Here are some of the Odyssey Characters.
This is the boys with Mr. Whittaker.  He is the owner of Whit's End. Everyone calls him "Whit"

Meet Sherman, he's the dog in the pic with the boys.

These two pictures are of Trent with Eugene. Eugene is a very smart character that just knows it all from a scientific point of view.  He's great !!

Here is Bernard, the window washer, Wooten the mailman and Connie, she works at Whit's End.
These are pictures of the actors that voice the Odyssey Characters.

Our favorite place, Whit's End the soda shop.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While here at Focus on the Family the boys were able to record their own Adventure in Odyssey.  They were able to be characters in the story, "The Case of the Broken Lamp"
They did an awesome job.  They were thrilled to be able to make and record their own CD.
Here is the script.
And the Radio Recording Station.
Bryson was in charge of the Foley Station.  A foley station is where the different background noises are made.  He did a great job making a horse walk, slamming doors and foot step sounds.
Heston and Trent enjoyed talking into the big microphones.
I'll try to post their audio adventure.
Here we are as the faces of all Odyssey Characters.
The elevator at Focus on the Family was painted to look like the Imagination Station.
Focus on the Family was a great  place to visit.  The building was packed with lots more.  It has a 3 story high slide, a full size air plane replica, puppets with a stage, Narnia room, secret pathways, and a play ground, just to name a few. So as you can tell from our pictures our favorite was Whit's End.
The boys can't wait to go back!  This is a great stop if you will be in the area.
And with free admission; it's a MUST SEE!!
