Day 4~ Deep in the Yukon

Ok, day 4! By now all our days were running together.  I had to make a list each day of what we did and what we saw so that we could keep track of this adventure.  Each day of driving 8 to 12 hours was wearing on us and we were getting kinda tired. We were ready to be in AK.
We started this day for off by leaving Teslin. Our campground was nice and we all got much needed showers.  We found out that while traveling the Yukon, you drive as much as you can and just pull over to sleep.  We saw so many campers just pulled over at the outhouse pull~offs to sleep.I was not very comfortable with doing that.  I mean we are out in the wild, we could go missing and no one would know what happened.
(I watch to many scary movies)
(Just a note; they have true outhouses here, these pull~offs were like rest stops,
but instead of a toilet it has pit)

When we entered the Yukon the visitor center gave us a passport book. If we stopped at 10 tourist spots and got 10 stamps then we would earn a Yukon badge.  So a lot of our stops were at these cool little places.  We saw neat things and got to stretch our legs.  Here we stop at the Insuit tribe visitor center and saw cool totem poles. Look it's a Heston totem pole!

While here, we saw this awesome mountain view.  Very calm and relaxing. If only the sun was shinning and I was sitting in a beach chair, PERFECT!

Back on the Klondike Hwy!  We make another stop in Whitehorse, Yukon. Nice stop.

We stop for lunch in White Horse at the Klondike Rib & Salon.  The boys and I sampled an Elk Burger while Johnny had his favorite, fish (halibut).  Our favorite thing served were their spicy fries.

Our passport led us to this quaint chapel.

This is a wall painted to look like a old western town.

We are in Canada.  Only in Canada do the police look this good.

Our passport leads us to a museum where we discovered this giant copper rock.

Our little baby mammoth.

Our big teen mammoth

And our middle, dare devil mammoth.  He just has to push his luck and climb the 8 foot statue.

Here are our passports almost all stamped up.

We find a statue of the giant beaver.  It was the largest rodent in North America.  They have a skeleton of this beaver in one of the museums.  We only had time to pose for a picture with the outdoor model.
Our last stop in Whitehorse to get a passport stamp was to the transportation museum.

Back on the road, but everyone told us we needed to make one more stop at Braeburn Lodge. The Braeburn Lodge are known for their World Famous Cinnamon Buns.   This thing was as big as Bryson's head.  And so yummyyyyyyyyyyy.  If you have 3 Tooneys and one Looney than this bun could be yours. You can find them at mile 55 on the Klondike Highway.  These buns were so good it might be worth your drive from the lower 48.

Back on the road again.  This road was really pretty, paved road lined with purple flowers. Nice change from our much traveled gravel road lined with dust.  Due to the gravel road and passing big transfer trucks we get a really nice souvenir, one we will see every time we get in the car: a cracked window.

Kinda hard to see the chip due to all the BUGS!

Dirt roads, chipped windows, no sleep, long drives, it was all worth the amazing views and the once in a life time adventure we are experiencing.

I took this photo for our Mayo friends.  We thought of them when we passed this sign.  We did not have time to go to the city of Mayo.  We were going to try to get as close to Dawson city as possible. Dawson City meant one step closer to the border.

Love the flowers that grow all over the Yukon. Purple, my favorite color!

We finally stop for the night at a Canada state campground.  Canada provides these along the way.  We only stay a few times.  These campgrounds have no electric, no water and only out houses for bathrooms.  But on the up side, they are cheap only 12.00 dollars for the night.  They did have a play ground but the boys could not stand the out doors due to all the bugs.  I think we used a whole bottle of bug spray.  Glad we had our little gas grill to cook up some dinner.

The boys try to start a fire in hopes to smoke out the bugs.  But the ground and wood was just too wet.

We did have a cute little visitor at our campsite.  Glad it wasn't a bear or wolf.
Another adventure day down.
We all snuggle into our nice warm sleeping bags smelling like bug spray but at least we are bite free.
