3rd Day of Driving!

Good Morning! This is the view we woke up to.  We had pulled into this campground late last night. I can't really tell you what time it was.  The light outside threw us all off as to the time.  But our bodies said bed time.  So we hit the sack.

On the road again.  This was our fist sight of dirt roads.  We had asked at the visitor center how much dirt road we would be driving on.  But their idea of a dirt road is different from ours.  We consider this a dirt road, the people of Canada consider this a gravel road.  I don't see the differences, until we hit what they do call a "dirt" road.  Either way it was rough driving.

As we drove down the road a bit we spotted this moose out in a lake of water.

These gravel roads were ok to drive on.
(check out my next blog to see where we run into trouble with gravel roads)
Made for a very dusty drive.  We learn by the end of our journey that we would rather have the gravel road than the bumpy paved road.  Because of the frozen ground in this part of the world the gravel roads work great for travel.  The paved roads when frozen and unfreeze have what they call up- heaving.  It is just as it says, the roads push up and sink down, causing huge ramps in the pavement.  These up- heavings gives the car a roller coaster feel, which is not good for our weighed down back bumper.  We experience a lot of this on our last day of driving.

We passed through a burnt forest.  Very sad looking area.  We unrolled our windows and we could smell the burnt smell in the air.  Heston said that it smelt like mom cooking dinner.  Funny guy!

Look!!! We spot two bears on the road side so we jump out to get a closer look.

More Bears!

We leave British Columbia and head on into the Yukon.  We thought British Columbia was bad, we soon learn that the Yukon is really out in no mans land.

We stop in Watson Lake for lunch.  Watson lake was a cute little city.
They are known for their 'Sign Forest'.

At lunch we decided to try something 'Canadian'.  This dish is called Poutine.  It's french fries smothered in gravy and cheese.  It was an interesting dish.

This is the "Sign Forest".  As of 2010 they have somewhat 70,000 signs.  Anyone can leave a sign.  So of course we had to leave our Georgia mark on the Yukon.

We just happen to have an extra tag in our trailer so we let the boys tag it!

The Mize Family has been here, Watson Lake, Yukon, Canada.

This is a must stop.  Just a place to stretch your legs.  The boys enjoyed playing on the old tractors.

Back on the road.  Loved seeing this kinda sign.  We wanted to see moose.

We stop for the night in the city of Teslin.

Stopped in the Teslin Museum. Found lots of stuffed animals.

Caribou

Moose

Polar Bear

Oh look, it's a Heston Moose.

10:30 at night and it is bright as can be:-)

Finally the sun goes down enough to make for a beautiful sky.  This is the Teslin bridge.  Another night down.  Time to get some rest so that we can conquer the rest of the Yukon tomorrow.  Two more days till we hit our new home city.
