Second day of our journey into Canada.

Our Second night in Canada we stayed at a very quaint  little campground in Prince George.  We quickly learned that this area of the continent  has the biggest and most plentiful heard of mosquitoes.  I am so glad that we had stocked up on the bug spray.  How many of you have been to South Georgia?  You know how the Georgia gnats swarm around your face and try to crawl into your eyes, well that is how we felt here in British Columbia, except for gnats the mosquitoes were doing the swarming. Surprising; we did not have a lot of bites.

The next morning we got up and made a few calls in a PHONE BOOTH. The boys thought this was an interesting way to make a phone call.  Heston got irritated at all the buttons he had to press.

As we drove through British Columbia we were amazed at how much farm land we saw.  Here we found a John Deere tractor bailing up some hay, just like we do in Georgia.

We stopped for a picnic lunch in a little town called Houston, BC.  They are known for their fly fishing. Here the boys stand under a huge fly fishing pole.

Found this cute little chapel in Houston.

First site of huge snow covered mountains.

I took this shot of the snow covered mountain with our Georgia tag.  We are a  very long way from home.

This is our chariot across the continent.  Did not think we would make it sometimes but this Durango has proved it's worth.

Here we found an awesome bridge to walk across.  The floor of this bridge is made of a corrugated  metal slats. When standing on the bridge you can look right through the floor to see the river flowing under your feet. This kind of floor allows the melting snow to fall through.  But it made our walk across quite scary.  Huge trucks where driving over making the whole thing swing.  Nice way to stretch our legs.

We took Hwy 97 up till we hit Prince George where we took Hwy 16.  Along this road we discovered a small town that is known for their totem poles.  We only stopped at one samll group of poles that was closest to our route. We could have spent all day driving around this town to see all their poles, but we needed to get back on the road.   This little town was called The Hazeltons.  This town was also the one with the cool bridge.

Along our journey we saw some pretty amazing animals.  One day Johnny spotted a Bald Eagle swooping down in a field to catch it's unsuspected prey.  We spotted this animal running across the road and  we are not quite sure what it might be. Leave us a comment if you know what it is.

This area of the world was amazing! The amount of water that was running everywhere stunned us. No drought here.

Awesome view one day after a rain shower.

First spotting Bear!!!

One of the streams frozen with ice.

Day number two comes to an end.  We made it from Prince George all the way to Iskut.  We spend the night at a campground right on a mountain lake. I'll post those pictures on the next blog. We end our day tired but amazed at all we saw and experienced.  We are excited to see what our next travel day will hold.
